For students

How do I sign in?
Click Student login on the landing page and use your school Google account. The first time you sign in, you'll be walked through a short profile setup (grade, free blocks, subjects you want help in or can tutor in).
How do I find a tutor?
Click Find a Tutor in the nav. Filter by subject and free block. Each card shows the tutor's name, grade, subjects, bio, and average rating from past sessions. Click Book Session on any card to send a request.
What happens after I book a session?
The tutor gets an email and decides to confirm or decline. You'll get an email when they respond. Confirmed sessions show in your History tab and on your dashboard calendar. A reminder email goes out 24 hours before each session.
How do I leave a review?
After a session is marked complete, you'll see a Leave a review prompt on your dashboard. Reviews are public on the tutor's profile and help other students choose well.
Can I message my tutor before the session?
Yes — once a session is confirmed, both parties can use the in-app Messages tab to coordinate. Keep the conversation focused on the session (Tag-a-Tutor isn't a general chat app, and admins can moderate inappropriate messages).

For tutors

How do I become a tutor?
Open your profile, toggle I'm available to tutor, and fill in the subjects you can help with, your free blocks, and a short bio. The more detail you add, the more bookings you'll get.
How do I see incoming requests?
Pending requests show up under the Requests tab in the nav. Each one has Accept / Decline buttons. If you accept, the student is notified; if you decline, they get an email so they can find someone else.
What's NHS?
National Honor Society. The platform tracks completed-session counts and shows an NHS badge on tutors who self-identify, but Tag-a-Tutor doesn't formally certify or report hours to NHS chapters — your school does that separately.
How does the help board work?
Students who can't find a tutor for a specific subject can post an open request to the Help Board. Any tutor who can take it clicks Claim. The student is notified and a session is created.
Can I block out dates I'm unavailable?
Yes — in your profile, add specific dates to your Blocked Dates list. Students won't be able to book you for those days.

For parents (TAG)

What is TAG?
TAG (Tutoring Across Grades) is the program where older students at your child's school tutor younger students. Parents request a TAG-certified tutor for their child, and the school's TAG facilitator reviews and approves every match before it's confirmed.
How do I sign up?
Click Parent on the landing page. Pick "Create account," enter your email, password, your child's school, and your child's name. Optionally add anything the tutor should know (learning differences, personality, current struggles).
How do I request a tutor?
After signing in, browse the TAG tutors at your school. Click Request this tutor on a specific tutor's card to send a direct request, or use Post a request to the board if you don't have a preference and want any TAG tutor to claim it.
What does the request need?
Subject, date, your child's grade and age, what to help with, and a preferred time of day. You can also note learning differences if relevant — those go to the school facilitator confidentially during their review, and to the tutor only after the match is confirmed.
What happens after I submit?
The tutor (if direct) gets an email; the facilitator gets a heads-up. When the tutor accepts, the request goes to the facilitator for review. Once they approve, you and the tutor both get a confirmation email and your My Requests tab updates to "Confirmed." From there, coordinate the actual session with the tutor through Tag-a-Tutor's messaging.
Can I cancel a request?
Yes — any request that's still in progress (waiting on tutor, posted to the board, or in facilitator review) has a Cancel button on the My Requests tab. Confirmed sessions need to be cancelled by you or the tutor through the regular cancel flow.
Where does the tutoring actually happen?
In a public, supervised space at the school — usually a library, common room, or learning center. Tag-a-Tutor doesn't supervise sessions itself; that responsibility stays with the school and the parent. The location field on the request is where you propose to meet, and the school facilitator reviews whether it's appropriate.

For school admins / facilitators

How do I get my school onboarded?
Click Request access for your school on the landing page. Submit your school's name, contact email, student email domain, and teacher email domain. We approve schools manually — usually within a few days. Once approved, students and teachers can sign in immediately with their school Google accounts.
How do I get admin access at my school?
Anyone whose email domain matches the Teacher Domain on file for your school is automatically an admin when they sign in via the Teacher tab. The contact email you provided at signup is also auto-admin. Existing admins can add other staff via the TAG Facilitators card on the admin dashboard — adding someone there grants both admin access and TAG facilitator role.
What does a TAG facilitator do?
Reviews every TAG match between a parent and a student tutor before it's confirmed. You'll get an email when a tutor accepts a request, and your admin dashboard's TAG Verifications queue shows everything awaiting your decision. Approve = match goes live; deny = the request returns to the parent (and the board, if it was originally a board post).
Do I have to review every TAG match?
By default, yes — that's the safe-by-default setting. If your school is comfortable letting routine matches confirm automatically, flip the Auto-approve TAG matches without learning differences toggle on the admin dashboard. With it on, you only review matches where the parent flagged learning differences. You still get an FYI email for every auto-approved match.
How do I certify a TAG tutor?
From the admin dashboard's Moderation → Tutors tab, find the tutor and click Make TAG. They'll start showing up in the parent-facing TAG tutor browse and can see TAG requests. Reverse with Remove TAG.
What can I moderate?
From the Moderation panel: remove tutor accounts (deactivates them, preserves history), delete inappropriate reviews, and delete unwanted help-board posts. All deletes are scoped to your school and logged server-side.

Troubleshooting

Login isn't working
Make sure you're using the right tab — Student/Teacher requires your school Google account; Parent uses email + password. If you signed up as a parent and forgot your password, click "Forgot password?" on the parent sign-in screen for a reset link.
I'm not getting notification emails
Check your spam folder. Notifications come from info@tagatutor.org; if your provider routed them to spam, mark one as "Not spam" so future ones land in your inbox.
I can't see another school's tutors / data
That's intentional. Every account is scoped to one school, and the platform won't show data from other schools. If you switched schools, contact us at info@tagatutor.org to update your account.
A page is loading slowly
First-time loads after a quiet period can take a few seconds (the server wakes from idle). After that, pages should be near-instant. If something feels stuck for more than 30 seconds, refresh once and let us know.
Where's my data going?
See the Privacy Policy for the full breakdown. TL;DR: stored in a managed Postgres database (Neon), used only to operate the service, never sold, never shared with marketers. You can request deletion any time.

Still stuck? Email info@tagatutor.org and we'll get back to you.
